Short-fiber needle-punched geotextile

Polyester or polypropylene staple, carded into a web and bonded by needle-punching. The brochure lists it for separation, filtration, drainage and reinforcement.

The fabric is a nonwoven. Staple fibers are carded, laid into a web and locked by barbed needles. The brochure describes an open, irregular structure that stays permeable under soil and water pressure and is awkward for fine soil to clog.

Raw material is polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP). The brochure describes both as resistant to acids and alkalis, rot and oxidation.

What the brochure emphasises

  • Lets water through while holding back soil.
  • Can form an in-plane path for excess liquid and gas.
  • Adds tensile capacity and limits deformation of the soil mass.
  • Spreads concentrated stress.
  • Separates aggregate, soil and concrete that should not mix.
  • Light to handle on site.

Uses named in the brochure

  • Railways and highways.
  • Sports grounds.
  • Dams and other hydraulic structures.
  • Tunnels.
  • Coastal works. The brochure sentence continues past what the scan shows clearly.
