Flexible permeable pipe

A soft pipe on a steel-wire helix, with a nonwoven filter and a polyester yarn cover. The brochure cites JC 937-2004.

The skeleton is high-carbon steel wire, treated against rust and coated with PVC, formed as a helix so the wall stays even and can take pressure. A nonwoven layer filters sediment. The outer yarns, polyester or nylon with PVC, supply tensile strength.

The brochure explains the pipe as collecting water through the cover, passing it inward, and keeping soil outside. It presents the pipe as continuous, with few joints, light, and able to follow the ground.

What the brochure emphasises

  • Small openings, permeable around the pipe.
  • Filter liner so sand stays outside.
  • Flexible, so it can sit against uneven soil.

Uses named in the brochure

  • Any buried drain where a rigid pipe is awkward. The brochure does not limit the use to one structure type.
  • The following page of the brochure, still on this pipe, names retaining walls, highway medians, landslide slopes, road and railway shoulders, soft ground, low ground and saline soil, roof gardens, tunnels, sports fields, hillsides, ash dams, horizontal drilled drains, and site drainage.

Laying notes printed in the brochure

These are the manufacturer’s notes. They do not replace the project specification or the engineer’s method statement.

  • The brochure says a 50 mm pipe can be made to the ring length of a tunnel and joined to a 100 mm longitudinal pipe.
  • Longitudinal lengths of 6–30 m are named, with straight and tee connectors.
