Company brochure

Self-adhesive anti-crack tape

A self-adhesive strip for joints and cracks, used when asphalt is laid over concrete or over an old road. Cold applied, after the release film comes off.

The brochure describes an asphalt-polymer compound on a high-strength carrier, with a heat-resistant fabric that is compatible with asphalt. It is presented as a combined waterproof and anti-crack layer for concrete-to-asphalt work.

The intended mechanism is that the carrier is stronger in tension than the bond, so movement at a joint is spread through the tape instead of opening a single crack in the new asphalt. The fabric is described as flexible enough to survive repeated shear between slabs and still seal the joint against surface water.

What the brochure emphasises

  • Self-adhesive. Cold applied. No hot works for the tape itself.
  • Bonds to concrete below and to asphalt above, as stated.
  • Net thickness described as 2 mm or more.

Uses named in the brochure

  • Joints and cracks in concrete pavements that will receive asphalt.
  • Overlay work where surface water must be kept out of the joint.

Laying notes printed in the brochure

These are the manufacturer’s notes. They do not replace the project specification or the engineer’s method statement.

  • The brochure’s worked example is a 2 mm tape over a joint about 4 mm wide, with 1 mm of horizontal movement, described as intact after 10,000 open-and-close cycles.
  • The same note describes 0.5 mm of vertical shear, 10,000 cycles, and a bend of 180° without breaking the carrier.
  • Bond is stated as greater than 4 N/mm, and higher after the hot asphalt has been rolled.
  • The self-adhesive layer on the underside is described as thicker than 1 mm, so rolling the asphalt completes the seal.

Stated in the brochure

  • The cycle counts and the 4 N/mm bond are the manufacturer’s statements. A laboratory report is not included in the brochure.
