Steel-plastic geogrid

Steel-plastic strips joined into a grid. The surface is embossed so the reinforcement can develop friction in a soil cushion.

The brochure describes the grid in a replacement fill, taking tension and friction, and limiting shear, lateral squeeze and heave. The reinforced cushion is presented as stiff enough to spread foundation load into a soft layer below, and flexible enough to absorb seismic energy.

Grade marks that can be read on the page include GSZ30-30, GSZ40-40, GSZ50-50, GSZ60-60, GSZ80-80 and GSZ100-100. A higher grade is printed and is not clear enough to quote. Confirm the mark and the tensile class on the current sheet.

What the brochure emphasises

  • Described as high strength and low creep, including for tall walls on high-grade highways.
  • Interlock with the fill, and restraint of lateral movement.
  • Compared in the brochure with ordinary plastic grids: higher strength, corrosion and ageing resistance, a higher friction coefficient, even apertures.
  • Also described for coastal work where steel gabions would corrode.

Uses named in the brochure

  • Roads, railways, embankments, abutments and haul roads.
  • Quays, revetments, flood banks, dams and tidal flats.
  • Yards, spoil grounds, airports and sports fields.
  • Soft ground, retaining walls, slopes and cracked pavements.

Laying notes printed in the brochure

These are the manufacturer’s notes. They do not replace the project specification or the engineer’s method statement.

  • The brochure says the laying bed should be even, and accepted, before the grid goes down.
  • Mark the width with a line, then pin the start of the roll with U-pins: four pins per metre of width.
  • Pull the roll forward and straighten it by hand about every 10 m.
  • Lap the next roll by one clear mesh opening and tie the lap.

A numerical table is printed for this product. It is not copied here, because the scanned cells could not be read without guessing. Ask for the current data sheet with your enquiry.
